Ex-battery hens

Ex-battery Hens

View this post on Instagram

Happy adoption post! . Life was pretty hard for these three pretty ladies. After two hard years cranking out eggs in cages, life took a worse downturn when someone tossed them out of a moving car. A good samaritan discovered them along the side of the road, zip-tied and sealed up in plastic bags, literally tossed out like garbage. . Lt. Erika Bennett at @ocanimalcare knew they deserved better and reached out to a @henharbor affiliate. They were riddled with mites and smelled horribly. . After three weeks in rehab, they were like new hens! Well, at least in spirit. Last weekend, the amazing Sandra welcomed them, along with three other ex-batts, and two shelter hens, into her loving home! Living the life as posh house hens (while coop being renovated, and wait out the harsh cold weather), they've completely left their old life behind! . Here's the best part of the story. "Chickens changed my life", Sandra shared. Having been vegetarian'ish for a while, she went vegan after adopting her first group of ex-batts two years ago, after realizing what happens to them, their bodies, and seeing what amazing creatures they can be. She now uses every chance to share her experience and love for chickens, in hopes that more will see them the way they should be seen. . Thank you Sandra and to everyone who made this possible!
