Update: I've been adopted by @pacificwaterfowl and will be going to live with @preetirangsanctuary ! . Oliver (ID# A1718913) is a Orpington rooster who was surrendered to the Los Angeles East Valley Shelter in late-July when he was only six months old. He was purchased from a feed store by an individual who only wanted to purchase hens. Although most of the chicks at feed stores are female, about 10% turn out to be roosters. These are actually the ‘lucky’ ones who manage to bypass getting tossed into the grinder at the hatchery. When Oliver matured and started crowing, since his previous owner wasn’t legally allowed to keep a rooster where they lived, they relinquish him to their local animal shelter, who thankfully was willing to accept him. .
