Remember Pollo? The adorable little black silkie rooster who was at the San Antonio, TX animal shelter last month? Well, a kind person saw a post about him on Adopt a Bird Network, and the very next day she went to the shelter and adopted him. She discovered that he was actually quite young and he even had still had his feathers coming in! . After a nice warm bath, blow dry, (which he enjoyed), many meal worms, chia seeds, organic veggies & meadow hay and lots of mineral water, he looked like a new bird! She thought he deserved a better name, and renamed him Little Jake Ryan, after the tall, dark & handsome hunk in the 80s movie Sixteen Candles---she is confident that Little Jake will grow up to be just that! However, she knew that Little Jake would need companionship with other chickens, and since she doesn't have other birds, she decided to find him a home which could provide him that. So she arranged for him to go to the Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation organization in San Antonio, making sure to also give them his bag of organic meadow hay and meal worms, while he waited to receive his vet exam. Shortly after, he was transferred to ‘Do Not Harm Sanctuary’ located in Kendalia, TX. . Little Jake Ryan will have the opportunity to slowly get introduced into the Sanctuary’s existing flock, which includes several other silkie bantam roosters just like him! Their chickens are kept in a mobile pasture coop which is safe and predator proofed, allowing them to enjoy their time grazing the green pasture and enjoy life! . Thank you so much Danielle for opening your kind heart to this sweet little rooster!! ?? . We really wanted to share this story with ya'll to help demonstrate how even if you don’t currently have the facilities to keep chickens, ducks and other birds, you can still help save their lives!
