A lovely story by @yesigarden about her experience adopting Rosie from the animal shelter! ?????? . @Regranned . Let me tell you the story of Rosie! A few weeks ago my IG friend @chickendvm messaged me about a chicken at my local animal shelter featured on @adoptabirdnetwork. That's really the end of the story. A chicken needed a home. Oh, and she happened to have the same name as my mother. Obviously, she was meant to be my chicken! So, I had her picked up at the shelter and kept her in my pantry for a few days. Then she went to the vet and received a clean bill of health. Then she spent two weeks in isolation to make sure she was healthy. Next stop was a improvised pen near the main coop so the other girls could get used to her. She is now fully integrated into the flock and sleeping in the main coop. Things I learned: She can fly. Rosie spent one night 12 feet up in a tree because I couldn't catch her. She did come down in the morning. She's a bit of a bully. Current status is top hen. She doesn't pick on the shy girls but she does not back down from a fight. Sorry Donna! I think she's some kind of game bird. Swipe to see her amazing tail featers! Any ideas? So, this is Rosie the Pound Chicken. She's fast and fierce and meant to be mine! #petchicken #newgirl #gwinnettcountyanimalshelter #Rosie #adopted #chickenportrait #mutt #chickenjoy #spoiledchickens #backyardchickens #myflock #chickenmath #chickenselfiesunday - #regrann A post shared by Adopt a Bird Network (@adoptabirdnetwork) on Dec 11, 2017 at 5:47am PST

Happy Update: I've been adopted by @yesigarden!! . Reintroducing Rosie! Rosie is available for adoption at the Gwinnett County Animal Control in Lawrenceville, GA. She is a small 2 year old hen, who was unwanted by her previous owner because her egg production began to drop. This however, is really unfair, because Rosie is a great little hen who deserves a shot at a happy life, where she is not treated like a machine. Please consider adopting sweet Rosie, and giving her a forever, no-kill, loving home! . Gwinnett County Animal Control // Lawrenceville, GA // Hours: M-Th 11-6, Fri-Sat 11-4. Closed Sundays. // 884 Winder Hwy (Rte 29) // 770-339-3200 // animalwelfare@gwinnettcounty.com . #adoptahen #hensofig #backyardchickens #compassion #friendsnotfood #chickensofinstagram #animallovers #animalrescue #animalrights #adoptdontshop #vegansofig #vegans #petchicken #animalshelter #chickensaspets #weeklyfluff #theweekoninstagram A post shared by Adopt a Bird Network (@adoptabirdnetwork) on Nov 15, 2017 at 9:30am PST
