Charles photo
Brick, NJ - Introducing Charles! Charles is a Blue and Gold macaw, believed to be male. He is a quiet bird for a macaw. He loves to be held, but seems to prefer men. Charles is a one person bird in his current home. He has lived with his current family for 18 years. The adult son moved away, his favorite person, but he still does not like going to his mom. He goes to the son when he visits. He does get some time out of the cage and he spends most of his out of cage time sitting on top of his cage. He does like to go down to the floor and go exploring. Charles cannot fly due to a wing injury that occurred before he lived with his current family. He had one home before his current one.
Charles loves to play with his wood toys and "yells" at them as he knocks them around. He does not destroy his toys as quickly as the other macaw, Marty, that he share a home with.
Charles is a calm, sweet, gentle bird with people he likes. He is wary of new people and then only likes a select few. Charles talks and says Hello, Stop That and Knock it Off. He usually yells only at sunset. He is being rehomed because his mom will be moving to Hawaii and sadly cannot take him with her.
Charles has a good appetite and eats primarily a mash diet. You will get a copy of his current mom's recipe. He is not a picky eater and will say "umm good" when he gets a meat bone from his family's dinner plate.
He shares his home with Marty, a Military Macaw, a Nanday Conure and Congo African Grey. He does not interact with the other birds. He does not live with dogs or cats, so it is not known how he will do with them.
Charles will not be adopted out to a home with young children.
Please consider opening your heart to them, and providing them a happy, no-kill, forever home they deserve!
