Hightstown, NJ - Introducing Bamboo! Bamboo (ID 15454187) is a beautiful White Cap Pionus who is believed to be male based on behavior. He has been with one family his whole life. They are moving and cannot take him with them. Bamboo was much loved and was used to interacting with his family and having playtime outside of his cage. Bamboo bonded primarily with the mom and tolerated the dad. He did not like the kids in the family and will be adopted out only to a home with bird experience and without young kids. He loved hanging out with mom and having his head scratched. As is true with the Pionus species, Bamboo is relatively quiet. He can say 'Step Up' and knows what that means. Bamboo will bite if asked to step up on a hand or arm. His owners used a towel folded a few times to have him step up on. His foster mom is using this technique and he has readily stepped up when asked to. He is hesitant to interact with his foster mom. He runs to her, then runs away. Bamboo will require patience in order to gain his trust. He can fly, but is not very skilled at flying. He has been eating a diet of Roudybush pellets mixed with seeds. He enjoys carrots, apples and nuts. His foster home is going to introduce him to lots of veggies, fruit and grains and try to expand his diet. Bamboo was an only bird in his previous home. He did live with a small dog and the two co-existed fine. Please consider opening your heart to him, and providing him a happy, no-kill, forever home he deserves!
