Fairfax, VA - Introducing Kiwi! Kiwi (ID 46141564) is a 8-year-old male sulfur-crested cockatoo, who is very loud. He is looking for a large bird-experienced adopter who can meet all of his needs - which are many! For starters, he requires a home without dogs. He has an ongoing feud with dogs in general, and shows his displeasure by being very loud about it. He's met a variety of other animals and isn't really a fan of any of them, to be honest. He might do alright with another bird, maybe, but it might take a long time for him to become friends with them. Kiwi is super smart and definitely has his own strong personality. For instance, does he like being handled? It depends. He will currently step up when he feels like it, and has learned that he can kinda boss people around. We think he'd do very well with consistency and training, with someone who has experience with large birds. Kiwi is a very sweet bird to people he likes, and will need someone to really build up the trust with him. He has a history of not really liking most men, although he has become friends with them after time and consistency. He's been around bird-savvy kids and for whatever reason is standoffish with them.
He loves broccoli, apples, and carrots, although his current caregiver says that he is "also known to yeet those items to the floor." Birds, are we right?? He is currently eating Caitec Oven Fresh Bites and Higgins Fruit to Nuts, as well as a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. His wings are not trimmed but he doesn't appear to have the muscle tone for flight, although he does like to glide to the ground. He enjoys being out of his cage, and will require a very large cage and also ample time outside of it to exercise. He's super smart, funny, sweet when he wants to be, and has a good appetite. He says "hi," "hello," likes to laugh loudly, and honks like a bike horn. (Birds are so wild...) He LOVES a "treasure box," which is just a cardboard box stuffed with newspaper, wood blocks, and toys. It's his favorite thing and he loves to take it all apart, which is great for mental stimulation! Please consider opening your heart to him, and providing him a happy, no-kill, forever home he deserves!
